the glass centre ‘t eksternest, glass objects, attempts to convey the unique and transitory nature of a moment of pleasure. a halo of graphic design and poetry inspired in this very place centres on a collection of transparent glass objects, fragile porcelain, ephemeral land art, passing glimpses of slide projections and video images.

the french artist gérard delafosse has created a series of painted glass disks for this exhibition. because of the transparency of the glass, the viewer experiences these paintings as colour applied directly on to the white walls of the villa. a large glass installation in the dark lower floor rooms moulds colour and light into a fata morgana.

eva engström of denmark creates fragility between lightness and illusion, like an angel fallen from the clouds drawing rhythmic coded messages on transparent stones on the beach.

the swedish-dutch artist anna carlgren works with coloured optical glass in various tints, including terracotta, whereby light is refracted out of the object.

hennie van engeland (b) creates graphic forms in heavy sculptural glass, reminiscent of runes. on the pond in front of the villa, her birds fly in formation to freedom.

christine vanoppen (b) experiments with the transparency of glass. through the juxtaposition of opaque and transparent elements she arrives at sturdy structures of a primeval simplicity associated with the world of nature, her eternal source of inspiration.

jeannine vrins (b), a pupil of the well-known belgian artist piet stockmans, creates ceramic and porcelain objects balancing between weight and weightlessness.

tunari (b) makes ephemeral interventions in the field in front of the villa: using bricks, he conjures up illusions in the landscape, which will bear his mark for just a few weeks.

with her short poems evoking transparency, illusion and transience, zora perrier (b) provides the poetic dimension of the exhibition.

as in the last exhibition, lien baert (b) will again be displaying her youthful talent in a video experiment focusing on the development of a land art project created in crete last year, during the levka ori encounters. the participants’ aim was to reflect the skyline of the levka ori mountains on to a bare mountainside with the aid of nets for harvesting olives.

'tribute to yayoi kusama': an installation with mirrors set up by the eksternest team will draw many visitors into an illusion.
the graphic artists winters and oeyen link up all the visible elements of the exhibition by means of invitations, posters, large text banners and a beautifully produced book describing the programme and introducing all the artists, which is on sale at 350 bef.
